Strategi Jangka Benah - Jambi

The Jangka Benah Strategy (SJB) implementation in Suo-Suo Village, Jambi, represents an important effort to restore ecological functions and improve the sustainability of oil palm cultivation within forest estate areas through a precision agroforestry approach. The initiative focused on preparing enabling conditions for long-term implementation, including the identification and verification of eligible farmers, strengthening institutional coordination, and establishing biodiversity and socio-economic baselines. In Suo-Suo, the Action also supported biodiversity assessments within oil palm-dominated landscapes, documenting the presence of protected and endangered wildlife species despite low vegetation diversity and simplified ecosystem structures. These findings demonstrate that the area still retains important conservation value and underline the urgency of implementing landscape restoration measures that balance ecological recovery with community livelihoods. The programme further strengthened the evidence base for scaling up SJB through a feasibility study conducted by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), which confirmed that agroforestry-based SJB models are both ecologically viable and economically feasible for smallholders. Alongside technical preparation, the initiative emphasised adaptive management, community engagement, and capacity strengthening for local partners to ensure transparent and evidence-based implementation. Through these efforts, SJB in Suo-Suo serves as an emerging proof of concept for addressing oil palm encroachment in forest areas while promoting more resilient landscapes, improved governance, and long-term socio-economic and environmental co-benefits.
