PROJECT
in progress
Description
The Thirty Hills Project focuses on protecting and restoring Bukit Tigapuluh, one of the last intact lowland forest landscapes in central Sumatra. Managed through an ecosystem restoration concession by PT Alam Bukit Tigapuluh (ABT), the project aims to safeguard 38,000 hectares of forest that support critically endangered species such as Sumatran tigers and elephants, indigenous communities, and significant forest carbon stocks. This project matters because it prevents further deforestation, strengthens wildlife habitat connectivity, and demonstrates a replicable model of conservation that combines ecosystem restoration, sustainable livelihoods, and market-based incentives for long-term forest protection.
