Agroforestry-Based Peatland Restoration in Hampangen
PROJECT
ready
Description
This site is located within the Sebangau–Katingan Peat Hydrological Unit, a landscape of critical importance for ecological connectivity and ecosystem protection. Through sustainable peatland management, the initiative aims to deliver long-term benefits for both local communities and the wildlife that depend on this ecosystem.
A demonstration restoration plot will be established to showcase practical implementation through an agroforestry model. The planting design will integrate native peatland species, orangutan food trees, and economically valuable non-timber forest product (NTFP) species, creating a landscape that simultaneously supports biodiversity conservation and community livelihoods. In total, the program will plant 10,000 seedlings.
