Supporting Ecosystem Restoration in the Thirty Hills Landscape - US Elephant 2024
PROJECT
in progress
Description
Thirty Hills Support for FY24–25 focuses on strengthening ecosystem restoration efforts within the Bukit Tigapuluh landscape, one of the last intact lowland forests in central Sumatra. The project supports forest protection and reforestation activities within the PT Alam Bukit Tigapuluh (ABT) ecosystem restoration concession to improve habitat quality and connectivity for critically endangered species such as Sumatran tigers, elephants, and orangutans. This initiative matters because it helps prevent further deforestation, safeguards vital ecosystem services including water and carbon storage, and reinforces a sustainable restoration model that integrates biodiversity conservation with community partnerships and long-term landscape resilience.
