Sagoo Restoration

PROJECT
in progress
Description
The sago restoration project in Sereh Village, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, aims to conserve a vital local food source while restoring ecologically important wetland ecosystems. Sago, an endemic plant of Papua, plays a central role in food security and local cultural traditions. Restoration includes replanting and enrichment in degraded sago groves affected by land conversion, poor water management, and limited natural regeneration, supported by community participation in planting and maintenance. The project is important to recover wetland functions, increase sago productivity, strengthen local food resilience, preserve cultural heritage, and support sustainable development in Jayapura Regency.
