Reforestation for Coastal Protection

PROJECT
in progress
Description
The coastal restoration project in Waninggap Nanggo Village, Semangga District, Merauke Regency, South Papua, addresses increasing coastal erosion caused by waves, tidal dynamics, and environmental changes that threaten shoreline stability, ecosystems, and local livelihoods. Using an ecosystem-based approach, the project restores mangroves and other coastal vegetation to reduce wave energy, trap sediments, and stabilize coastal soils. It also actively involves local communities in planning, implementation, and maintenance. This initiative is important to strengthen natural coastal protection, restore ecosystems, enhance community resilience, and ensure the long-term sustainability of coastal resources and living conditions.
