Description
Restoration is an important process to return damaged or disturbed ecosystems to their balanced natural state, involving physical repairs and the recovery of ecological functions. One of the activities of WWF Indonesia Program Papua is the restoration in Kampung Nanggouw, Sausapor District, Tambrauw Regency, Southwest Papua, which is carried out because a 2023 climate vulnerability study showed that this village is prone to landslides and floods. Additionally, Kampung Nanggouw is threatened by land cover changes that endanger biodiversity in the forest area. On September 23, 2024, WWF Indonesia held a meeting with the community of Kampung Nanggouw and customary landowners from surrounding villages to conduct FPIC (Free, Prior, and Informed Consent) or PADIATAPA (Persetujuan atas dasar informasi di awal tanpa paksaan). This meeting resulted in an Agreement Minutes discussing the types of plants to be restored, land agreements, and landowners. The Agreement Minutes were signed by traditional leaders, church leaders, women leaders, youth leaders, the head of the ecotourism group, and witnessed by the Head of Kampung Nanggouw.
